12 Consecutive Years of Excellence in Financial Reporting

Old Bridge MUA announces that the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 13th consecutive year to the Old Bridge Municipal Utilities Authority for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for Fiscal Year Ended May 31, 2016.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the individual, department or agency designated by the government as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. This has been presented to Michelle Smith, Chief Finance Officer.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the Financial Report.

Old Bridge Municipal Utilities Authority is the first and still the only municipal utilities authority in the State of New Jersey to receive this award and takes pride in and congratulates all of our Commissioners, Employees, and Professionals, who in performing their responsibilities serving the Old Bridge public ensured an energy of teamwork, allowing us the ability to receive national recognition for the OBMUA and its employees, many of whom have also received recognition in their professional careers.

The primary mission of OBMUA is to provide residents with two vital services: a continuous supply of safe drinking water and the efficient and effective removal of wastewater.

In this mission they have worked to revitalize, reorganize, and reshape the OBMUA to take advantage of future growth and changing technology, allowing for upgrades and expanded facilities to provide water and sewer services to all areas of the Township, along with increased water supply for fire fighting services. The planning and implementation of their programs are done using a Capital Planning Program with continuing service contracts up to twenty years.

This allows for short and long-term planning to implement improvements with minimal disruption in a timely manner and to ensure a stable and secure system. Through planning and teamwork we have been able to take advantage of timing using the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust for low cost loans, principal forgiveness, and system expansion through new developments, public and private partnerships, reduction of staff, and implementation of new technology. Continuous fiscal and management oversight all with the purpose of using it to our advantage and using all opportunities to ensure a strong and stable system for our children’s future at a reasonable cost.
